Observation: These are work intensive products. Every feather is handpicked by an artisan, making no two pieces alike. All feather accessories are washable.

Throw in your trunk, the overhead compartment, or even under the airplane seat. Adjustable leather shoulder strap and shorter leather handles.
- Tremont Wine Tote – two collapsible interior wine sleeves make the bag endlessly adaptable. Can be used as a lunch bag, a 64 oz growler tote or a carry-all for a whiskey bottle and glasses.
Observation: Love the bridle leather handles, will probably last a lifetime.

The What: A company specializing in women’s luxury accessories inspired by Africa. Works with small family farms in Texas, South Africa and Namibia. The company is committed to conservation and sustainability. They maintain the highest ethical standards in the sourcing of any fur or feathers: no endangered or threatened species are used in any products.
What we sampled:
- Wild Kalahari Silk Scarf – handwoven and naturally dyed from wild-harvest kalahari silk, handmade in Namibia by female artisans. Beautiful colors – dyes only from natural products such as beets, onions, turmeric, pressed flowers and berries.
- Prosperity Bangle – a bracelet made of solid brass and hand cast in Ghana, West Africa. Features a narrow opening and a snug fit. (Tip: definitely for a petite wrist.)
Observation: If you’re looking for unique and original accessories and enjoy supporting women artisans, then this is a good fit.

What we sampled:
- Champagne candle – we doubted – but – notes of white grape, citrus and honey. Thought it was New Year’s Eve.
- Rose Soap – some peach, rose petals and hint of spice. Refreshing and different.
Tip – based on our quality experience, we are going to purchase a Wine Under the Tree for Christmas. A seasonal candle with blue spruce and bright citrus. Start some new holiday traditions and memories.

The Joggle Factory
The What: Designs and builds authentic and classically-styled joggling boards for your patio, garden, porch or even indoors. Custom-built using sustainable, locally harvested lumber. Joggling boards are functional pieces of furniture that can take the place of two rocking chairs and not make your porch look crowded.
A little history: This old-fashioned piece of furniture was brought to America in the early 1800’s by Scotch immigrants settling in the South. The story of their role in 19th century Southern courtship has the right touch of charm to make anyone want one. Traditionally, the gentleman would sit near one rocker end, the lady near to the other, and they would gently “joggle” their way toward one another in the middle. Should their hips touch in the middle, they would live happily ever after. It is said that there has never been an unmarried daughter with a joggling board on the porch.

- Alert! This was not a purchase. We only experienced it at the store. 10’ Joggling Board – 10 long, top board 12 inches wide, seat height 23 inches, overall height 32 inches, sits 2-3 people. Lots of fun, lots of relaxation, nice sway. (Tip – everything you need to assemble it is included, except a hammer or mallet, and a wet rag.)

- Bergamot and Grapefruit Bath Bomb – if you like to soak in a bath, this product will bring you to another level. A relaxing soak, revitalizing the senses and cleansing the skin.

- Lavender Basil Hand and Body Wash – a blend of English lavender and sweet basil oils. This is a wash for everyone in the family. Deep cleanse. No synthetics.
- Wildflower Atmosphere Spray – a few sprays will fill your room with the aroma of wildflowers and earthy sweet frankincense. Packed with antibacterial and disinfectant properties to eliminate odors and bacteria. Found it to be very effective.
Observation: socially conscious company. 5% of every purchase is donated to a recovery fund to aid those caught up in substance abuse.

The What: Handcrafted co*cktail mixers concocted by bartenders and, as they say on their website, “made by humans with real ingredients carefully crafted in small batches.”
What we sampled:
- Charred Grapefruit Tonic – this is a gold standard co*cktail mixer. Fresh lemon/lime juice, Florida Cane Sugar, charred grapefruit peel, cinchona bark (natural quinine flavor) and Bulls Bay sea salt. Once you mix this with your rum, vodka or gin, your life will be changed.
- Tom Collins with Elderflowers Hops – a refreshing mix with floral and citrus notes. Centennial hops make the difference. Best with vodka or gin.

What we sampled:
- Two Bottle Basket with Spouts – choice of an olive oil and a vinegar. We went with the Butter Infused Olive Oil: a taste explosion over roasted corn, shrimp, crab, and popcorn (yes, popcorn). For vinegar, we chose the Blood Orange Infused Dark Balsamic Vinegar: great with salads, hamburgers, lamb chops, and ice cream (yes, as with the popcorn).
Observation: Two and four packs are packaged in a wicker bamboo basket that is a treat in itself.

Grey Ghost Bakery
The What: A small, family-owned baking company that is prized for its hand-formed, made from scratch cookies. Premium ingredients: unbleached flour, European style butter, pure cane sugar, whole eggs. Family recipes passed through generations. Named after the Grey Ghost, a South Carolina friendly spirit that warns residents of impending storms.
What we sampled:
- Sample Pack – 8 Lemon Sugar cookies, 8 Chocolate Chip cookies, 8 Molasses Spice cookies, 8 Chocolate Espresso cookies, 4 Almond Toffee cookies, 4 Bourbon cookies. Please don’t ask for our favorite; we think it was a tie for the top spot between all.
Tip: Friends have told us that the Pumpkin Roll with cream cheese filling has been a great hit for Halloween and Thanksgiving. We trust them and just put our order in.

- Special Blend All Purpose Sauce – thick, flavorful blend. We used it as a seafood marinade for flounder and shrimp. Whisk it into your eggs before scrambling to brighten your day. Drizzled some on a Lowcountry Boil and it worked.
- Combo Spice Pack – the “Hissy Fit” and “Ho Lotta” add spice and fire to meats, seafood and vegetables.
Tip: Don’t reach for the salt shaker, try “Hissy Fit” instead.

- 1 lb Original Charleston Benne Wafer Bag – Benne is the Bantu word for sesame which was brought from East Africa and planted extensively throughout the south. Olde Colony’s recipe dates back over 100 years and is believed to be the original Benne Wafer recipe. This was a salty, sweet, crunchy experience. These wafers are ideal for a snack or dessert. (Tip: Keep indoors in a dry cool place. For best taste, consume within 6 months.)

- Aromatic Bitters – burnt cane sugar syrup as a base to build a complex taste with citrus and winter spice notes. A great addition to your Manhattan or Old Fashioned.
- Sweet Tea Syrup – add this to some vodka and lemon for a special, refreshing drink. Also at home with bourbon.
Tip: If you indulge a little too much the night before, add some generous drops of the Aromatic Bitters to soda water or ginger ale in the morning. You will be surprised how much better you will feel.

What we sampled:
- 27 Piece Tower of Chocolate – 3 tier box of 27 pieces of hand painted or hand rolled chocolate truffles. Comes in a classy box secured by a ribbon. Each piece is chocolate Nirvana.
Observation: These are incredibly crafted; each piece is a work of art and a culinary delight. If “life is like a box of chocolates,” I want mine to be from Christophe.

The what:As they say on the website: “Nothing Speaks Charleston like Gullah Gourmet.” Handmade Lowcountry food mixes that are quick, easy and delicious and will give you a taste of Gullah culture.
What we sampled:
- Gullah Gullah Gumbo – luscious with a jolt. Just add water. We found it to perfectly complement shrimp and kielbasa sausage. Bag comes complete with rice and sauce. Feeds 4 to 6 people.
- Friday Night Fish Fry – this batter does wonders with fresh fish. We tried it with flounder and whiting. But the sleeper was slathering it on scallops! Can’t be beat.

High Wire Distilling
The What:Premium, handcrafted, small-batch spirits. They use heritage grains in their bourbon and rye, reflecting one of the co-founder’s past as a baker. Creative spirits with a culinary approach.
What we sampled:
- New Southern Revival Brand Rye – 75% abruzzi, an heirloom rye that originally comes from Italy but grows well in the South.The rye also uses heirloom corn. Doesn’t have a lot of bite, which we appreciated. It starts with a nuttiness and finishes a little sweet. Great in a Manhattan, a Sazerac or an Old Fashioned, but it’s such an easy-drinking sipper that you can drink it neat.
- New Southern Revival Brand Straight Bourbon Whiskey – made with 100% Jimmy Red Corn, a rare varietal that almost became extinct. High Distillery worked with Clemson University to spark a resurgence in this corn breed that once had been used by coastal moonshiners. This is an interesting drink but definitely not for the shy.

Food For the Southern Soul
The What:From shrimp sauce and dry rubs to stone ground grits, Charleston Gold Rice and artichoke relish, this is a place keeping soulful Southern food alive in Charleston and the Lowcountry. Their products are available in national retail markets and online, making sure that everyone has access to soulful Southern food.
What we sampled:
- Okra Soup – freshly pickled okra simmered with diced onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, fresh basil, thyme and parsley. Can be a stand alone but we added some cooked shrimp and served it over rice. If you’ve never had okra soup you will be in for a mouth-watering surprise.
- Wild Game Marinade – blend of molasses, worcestershire, teriyaki, soy, rosemary, garlic and pepper. We tried it with quail and it accentuated the meat without overpowering it. (Tip: Wild Game Marinade does wonders with the not-so-wild pork loin. Whatever you use, we found it best to let it marinate overnight.)
