Top Tigers News

  • Tigers' Jake Rogers: Hitting bench Monday

    Rotowire

Rogers is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Rogers will hit the bench after he started behind the plate both of the past two days and in three of the past four games overall. The 29-year-old is slashing just .150/.171/.375 overall in June, but he appears to have worked his way back into a timeshare at catcher with Carson Kelly nonetheless.

  • Phillies take sparkling ERA on road to Detroit

    Stats

  • Tigers' Reese Olson: Pitches into seventh versus CWS

    Rotowire

Olson (2-8) earned the win after he pitched 6.1 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits while striking out three batters in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

Olson tossed six scoreless frames before running into some trouble in the top of the seventh, ultimately exiting the game with one out and runners on second and third. Both runs came around to score on a two-out single by Nicky Lopez off reliever Will Vest. Nonetheless, Olson has now recorded back-to-back quality starts after a three-start stretch during which he gave up 17 earned runs over 14.2 innings to open June. The right-hander will carry a 3.35 ERA into his next projected start on the road against the Angels.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Reaches four times in rout

    Rotowire

Perez went 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

While Perez wasn't one of the four Detroit players to go deep, he still had a big performance in the blowout win. The 24-year-old came into play batting just .188 over his last five games, but he's hitting .264 overall in what's been a solid rookie campaign so far. Perez should continue to see regular playing time for the Tigers, at least while Kerry Carpenter (back) is on the injured list, and that gives him some fantasy upside.

  • Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Goes deep in easy win

    Rotowire

McKinstry went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

McKinstry was one of four Detroit players to go deep and perhaps the most surprising one, as this was just his second of the season across 51 games. The utility player is batting only .185, and while he's seeing more playing time right now with Javier Baez (back) on the injured list, McKinstry may be better suited to a reserve role due to his limited offensive abilities.

... See More ... See Less

  • Tigers' Akil Baddoo: Blasts second home run

    Rotowire

Baddoo went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

Baddoo went deep in the first inning with a runner on base for his second home run of the season. However, he wasn't able to add anything else to his box score, which is reflective of his struggles overall this season. The outfielder is batting just .132 across 16 games and has mostly fallen into a reserve role for the Tigers.

... See More ... See Less

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Pops 15th home run

    Rotowire

Greene went 2-for-4 with a walk and a three-run home run in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

Greene hit his 15th home run of the season in the second inning, a three-run shot that pushed him to 40 RBI this year. The 23-year-old outfielder has gone deep five times this month in 20 games, and a monster finish to the campaign could be in order if he keeps this up. Greene has already set a new career high with the 15 homers, and he needs three more RBI to set a new career best in that category.

  • Tigers' Colt Keith: Big effort in rout

    Rotowire

Keith went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, three total runs scored and three RBI in Sunday's 11-2 win over the White Sox.

Keith got the scoring started with a two-run home run, his fourth of the season, in the first inning and proceeded to record his third four-hit effort of the year. The youngster is riding a five-game hitting streak and is batting .258 this month. Keith is now batting .243 overall and is trending in the right direction after a slow start to his rookie campaign.

  • Tigers score 9 runs in 2 innings of 11-2 win over White Sox after scoring 5 in 6 previous games

    Stats

  • Tigers' Carson Kelly: Sitting again Sunday

    Rotowire

Kelly is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox.

Kelly will sit for a second straight game after hitting a two-home run in the series opener Friday. Jake Rogers will once again start at catcher and bat ninth against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon.

... See More ... See Less

  • Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Sitting Sunday

    Rotowire

Malloy is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the White Sox.

Malloy will take a breather Sunday after starting in the first two games of the series, going 1-for-6 with a double and one run scored. Riley Greene will serve as the designated hitter Sunday while Akil Baddoo starts in left field against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon.

  • Tigers' Mason Englert: Effective in Saturday's loss

    Rotowire

Englert tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the White Sox.

Englert efficiently retired all seven batters he faced on just 24 pitches. The righty allowed five runs in an outing earlier this month, which has his ERA sitting at 5.79, but he's been mostly good otherwise. Not counting that rough appearance, Englert has a 3.78 ERA across 16.2 innings this year. He should continue to work in a long-relief role for the Tigers, which limits his fantasy upside.

  • Young pitchers square off as Tigers, White Sox close series

    Stats

  • Tigers' Kenta Maeda: Allows three runs in loss

    Rotowire

Maeda (2-4) took the loss against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts over 4.2 innings.

Maeda tossed three scoreless innings before allowing two runs in the fourth. He then yielded two hits in the fifth before being pulled at 92 pitches, and an inherited runner scored on an RBI single by Andrew Vaughn. Maeda has not registered a quality start since May 1 and has only completed five or more innings in six of his 13 starts this season. The 36-year-old owns a 6.00 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB over 54 innings and lines up to face the Angels next week.

  • Drew Thorpe gets first major league win, combines on 5-hitter to lead White Sox over Tigers 5-1

    Stats

  • Tigers' Beau Brieske: Earns first hold

    Rotowire

Brieske worked around a hit to toss two scoreless innings of relief and earn a hold in Friday's 2-1 win over the White Sox.

The hold is the first of the season for Brieske and the fifth of his career. Since starting 15 games as a rookie in 2022, the righty has transitioned to the bullpen for the Tigers, and he's been an effective long reliever this year. Brieske has logged 20.1 innings across his 11 appearances, posting a 2.66 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. While the numbers are good, his fantasy value is limited in his current role.

... See More ... See Less

  • Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Sitting again Saturday

    Rotowire

McKinstry isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

McKinstry has gone 0-for-18 with eight strikeouts in his last six contests, and he'll now sit down for the second game in a row Saturday. Ryan Kreidler will pick up another start at shortstop, batting ninth.

  • Tigers' Carson Kelly: Idle Saturday

    Rotowire

Kelly isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.

Kelly will get a breather Saturday after belting a two-run home run during Friday's win. Jake Rogers will fill in behind the dish and bat eighth.
